As it says in the heading, this is the web home of a Tampa-based writer, blogger, analyst, comic, and self-proclaimed creative semi-genius Mike Lortz.

I have also used the nom de plume “Jordi Scrubbings” quite a bit over the last five years. Quick explanation: I was young and working for the government and didn’t know what would happen if people found out I was blogging. But it ended up ok.

Writer

Although I have been writing since I was 13, I received my start as a paid writer writing for the FSView & Florida Flambeau from 2002 to 2003. After only writing there for eight months, I won Writer of the Year.

I have published my own book, The Best of The Serious Tip (Kindle), and was published as part of a compilation book of baseball writing entitled The Bus Leagues Experience.

I have also done freelance work for the Tampa Bay Times.

Blogger

Since Fall 2006, I have populated the Internet with my own style of creative musings, ponderings, and masterpieces first on The Serious Tip.com and then on this site since November 2009.

I’ve been published on various sports web sites throughout the Internet, from Deadspin.com to MinorLeagueBaseball.com to many Tampa Bay Rays-centric sites.

Social Media Advisor

I was lead tweeter, Facebook administrator, and social media guru for All-Stars Wrestling Florida, a small pro wrestling promotion based in Tampa, Florida, from October 2010 to June 2011. I established a twitter following that reached out to national wresting audiences and increased Facebook follows by over 100%.

Analyst

From 1995 to 1999, I was an Intelligence Analyst in the U.S. Army. I took a four-year break to complete my education and then joined the Florida Army National Guard as an Intelligence Analyst.

Following my time in the service, I worked as a Process Analyst for a military contractor at United States Central Command. During my time working for and with the military, I was deployed to both Bosnia-Herzegovina and Qatar.

In mid-2011, I performed duties as a Business Analyst for an Internet advertising and marketing network company based out of Sarasota, Florida.

Comic

In August 2010, I ventured in the world of comedy by taking courses taught by “New York Bad Boy” Artie Fletcher.

I have performed stand-up comedy at:

The Tampa Improv: a 5 minute set 10/30/2010, 8 minute set on 1/30/2011.

Bonkerz Comedy Club in  Ocala, Florida – guest spot

Winner’s Circle Comedy Club in Lakeland, Florida – guest spot

I frequently also appear in commercials for TampaBayNightLife.tv and have acted in several comedy video shorts done by The Afro-Squad, an online-based media creation and production site.

Creative Semi-Genius

Because calling myself a genius would be way too pretentious.
