A Christmas Song by Ice-Tay and the Jingle Jamboree

I was feeling so much in the holiday spirit the other day that I wrote a song. Not just any song, but a song that captures the true feeling of Christmas.

Ok, well maybe one that captures the true feeling of spending money for Christmas.

Sung to the tune of the Big Tymers’ classic rap joint “Still Fly“, this song perfectly posits the juxtaposition of the American working man to his struggle to buy material goods for his family while still maintaining economic self-legitimacy in the cutthroat capitalistic nvironment of 21st Century America.

In order to capture the spirit of the song, I recruited famous rapper and actor Ice-Tay and the musical genius of the world renown Jingle Jamboree band. Unfortunately, I only had the money to pay the Jingle Jamboree band to stand behind Ice-Tay; I didn’t have enough to pay them to play music. So you don’t hear them.

But you do hear Ice-Tay. And to me, that’s worth the price of admission.

A Trip to the Dade Battlefield State Park

Thursday I finally visited the Dade Battlefield State Park. Although I have passed it dozens of times, I never had the chance to stop by. With my personal history in the US Army and my growing interest in Seminole Indian history, the Dade Battlefield was a place I needed to go.

While I visited I brought my video camera and recorded my walking tour of the park. Feel free to check out the video.

Opening Day Tropicana Field 2011

Here is a video I made about going to Tropicana Field to see the Rays take on the Baltimore Orioles on MLB Opening Day 2011.

As I summarized on YouTube:

“My trip to Tropicana Field for the Tampa Bay Rays home opener on April 1, 2011. I like to think this video fully captures the essence and environment of the Rays faithful both before and after the game. Special appearances by Tug Haines, Santa Rays, Chris Harris, the fiddler, Ferg’s Sports Bar, lots of folks with crazy hair, the guy who gave me a beer, and hundreds of Rays fans.”

I copied a bunch of VHS tapes to DVDs recently and found a quite a few old shows and clips I forgot I recorded. Why I recorded some of the stuff I did is beyond me – I had weird taste back then – but some of the shows are a neat walk down memory lane, like this clip of CNN’s Top Five Sports Plays of 1993.

Here is another clip from The Willie Brown Blues Benefit Concert hosted by Jason Rewald of TheDeltaBlues Blog (TDBlues.com) on 9/26/2010. The show took place at Rick’s on the River in Tampa, Florida. This clip features bluesman Eddie Wright getting things started with a nice instrumental jam.

Great news! Apparently, the concert and the fundraising was a success. Here is the latest from TheDeltaBlues website:

We have picked out the headstone, thanks to a connection and friend local to Tunica County. A picture of the headstone is below. Instead of a floral pattern or cross though, we will have an acoustic guitar etched on the stone. We have also finalized the text to appear on the stone. It will read:

You are probably wondering why it is a silent film. Well, there was an audio soundtrack, but youtube didn’t think my authorization to use Metallica and Led Zeppelin songs was official. It probably didn’t help that I signed it “Lead Zeppelin”.
